The Horn 88 was launched for the 25-year anniversary of the launch of the Trevor James saxophone division. Trevor James started as a specialist flute manufacturer and then expanded into the clarinet and saxophone market after early success. The Horn 88 has an excellent build quality that is not normally seen on instruments under the £1000 bracket. They have incorporated many of the features of the SR model, including the pads and springs as well as the key layout. By using the same materials as the Classic Horn series, they have provided these features at a more affordable price. It has a clear, strong tone that is consistent across all dynamics. The larger bell and gun rifled neck crook allow for better sound projection also. The 'champagne frost' finish is due to the new water based lacquer that they have used on this instrument. Unlike conventional lacquers, there is one layer that is applied and then baked on to give the hard, coloured, finish seen. The key spacing and pearl touchpieces make the Horn 88 a superb instrument to play as it feels natural to play. It is beautifully finished and feels solid and well built. It has a balanced key action, making it smooth and intuitive to play.
